New mechanical recycling technology for polymer purification

At the K 2025 trade fair, Lindner introduced Flexloop, a new mechanical recycling technology developed in cooperation with Procter & Gamble. The process is based on solvent-assisted extraction and is designed to remove impurities such as non-intentionally added substances (NIAS), odours, adhesives and printing inks from polymer chains.

Flexloop is the name of the new mechanical recycling technology that Lindner has presented at K 2025 in collaboration with P&G. With the help of a solvent-based extraction process, polymer chains are reliably cleaned from contaminants (NIAS), odours, adhesives and printing inks – and this with consistent purity, so that recyclates can also be used for sensitive packaging, e.g. in the cosmetics or hygiene sector. The high level of purity achieved enables post-consumer recyclates to be used for demanding applications, including packaging for cosmetics and personal care products. With this development, Lindner expands the potential applications for mechanically recycled plastics and supports the transition toward higher-quality material cycles.

Flexloop is designed as a modular system that can be integrated into existing Lindner washing and recycling lines. This allows recyclers to make use of their existing infrastructure while enhancing purification capabilities. Compared with chemical recycling processes, the technology offers lower investment and operating costs, providing an efficient option for improving material quality within established mechanical recycling frameworks.

The collaboration between Lindner and Procter & Gamble began at the previous K trade fair. Following joint development and licensing agreements, Lindner has secured exclusive rights to commercialize the technology and plans to establish it as an industrially scalable solution in mechanical recycling.
